Lap Band on 05/02/07 with
Sorry I cannot answer any  of your questions. I had the lap-band so I am not sure how the RNY works. I just wanted to send some words of encouragement and tell you to be strong. I went through a lot of emotions just before and up until about a month after surgery. Congrats on getting your date and I cant wait to welcome you to the looser side.

So my surgery isn't untill april but I just met with my surgeon and he went over most of this with me and i asked about the hairloss thing earlier today... so from what i've been told hairloss- get protin and some biotin, your a guy i wouldnt worry about it even being noticable plus my dr did tell me it grows back its just because your bodies in shock partly because of the anaesthesia and partly because of the malnutrition  recovery is usually about 3 weeks for most things but any real lifting or like sit ups i was told at 6 weeks i could do anything i could before surgery  excess skin? from what i'm told its easier on younger people but you can't stretch anything out that much and expect it to just go back to normal... personally i've excepted that I won't look like I stepped out of playboy anytime soon. and the excercise... my dr told me at 2 weeks they want me to start excercising minus lifting sit ups but thats probably something you want to ask your surgeon hope that helps and goodluck

lol...unfortunately (fortunately for YOU) men are a whole different species when it comes to this surgery...chances are, the weight I lost in six months, will fall of of you in eight weeks...men lose so much faster than women, so your needs will be much different than the ones you'll see posted here on a regular basis... ...so enough of why i hate you... I know there's a men's board on OH...I'm sure they would have a MUCH better grasp on the unique needs your body will have after surgery... Good luck to you...I know how excited and terrified you are...you will get through your big day like a champ...and be back here making us all jealous as hell that you're losing like a rock-star!!! **sending a hug** xxxbecca

Let me give you the rundown on my experience: Hariloss:  I didn't notice any at all and as me with shorter hair, unless your Fabio, I dont think you really can tell your hair is falling out in the shower or as you comb through it. Recovery:  With no complications you will feel fine in 7 days.  I could have gone back to work in a week if that says anything.  Don't worry, it truly is not bad at all... Skin:  So far so good!  I am down almost 100 pounds and 70 of that is since surgery on Dec 3, 07.  My skin has bounced back for the most part...  Put it this way, I rock a A-Shirt (also known as a tank top, under shirt or my choice "wife-beater" as seen on Cops shirt, JK!) with no worries! Start Exersising as soon as you get out of surgery and can get your feel under you.  Walk, walk, walk!  I was walking around the hospital every two hours through the day and night.  I even had them wake me up, which they did often anyway, so that I could go for a walk.  This helps with blood clots, fever, ect.... WALK!  After that and out of the hospital keep up the walking and at 2 weeks I was allowed to start the work outs. Dont sweat the small stuff, just make sure your ready for the best years to come!

1) Do I have to worry about hairloss..ive been taking alot of protein (Nectar FTW) yes, everybody loses hair no matter what
2) How long does the average recovery time take for laproscopic RNY/ well, it depends on what you consider recovery time - you will be in the hospital 2 days and be released - personally I went back to work 6 days after I had surgery. The first 2 weeks is where I really felt the cruddiest and then it got better
3) Am I going to have alot of excess skin? A lot... well its hard to say - you will have some, its expected... we all end up with some sort of wiggle jiggle excess skin - no matter how young you are
4) When can i start exersising.. I was to walk 20 minutes a day when I was released from the hospital. After 2 weeks I was cleared for all exercise except for ab work... that had to wait until after 6-8 weeks out.

1st of all- I wish you all the best, good luck!!! 1. I lost a lot of hair... i think a lt of people do.. but that doesnt mean you will. Keep getting that protein in (that will help 2. I felt fine after 2 weeks (sleepy a lot, but i could walk around, shower, no pain ect..) 3. I've lost 120 pounds.. i dont have any extra skin! (im also 19) 4.My doctor told me i could start walking 7 days after, but i couldnt lift weights over 10 pounds until i was 6 weeks out. If ya have any more questions let me know!

1. - Yes.  You will lose hair.  It is part of rapid weight loss.  It won't all fall out and it will grow back. 2.  Average?  hard to say.  For me, if it weren't for a-non-WLS-related complication I would have been back to business in 3 weeks, but sometimes, especially if this is your first ever surgery, it can be longer or shorter.  Just pay attention to your body.  Get your liquids and calories in as best you can and that will help.  Oh, and walk as you are able.  Getting up and moving will help you get back to normal faster. 3.  You will have excess skin.  No way around it.  That is what happens when you are morbidly obese and then you lose weight.  Take your vitamins, exercise, drink water, take protien - you'll still have it - those things can help (in addition to you being younger) but you will still have some.  If it is medically a problem you can work to get insurance to pay for removal when you are at goal and maintaining for a while, but until then just focus on getting healthy.  it is worth it. 4.  Ask your surgeon.  Generally they are going to get you up and walking the same day you have your surgery.  So you can start walking (and you should!) right away.  You'll probably have to wait 4-6 weeks-ish before getting into anything more heavy duty than that. I wish you the absolute best and pray that your surgery is perfect and recovery smooth!
